When to Renew a Gas Boiler - Avoid Costly Repairs

Central heating systems have a primary heating appliance such as a furnace or boiler located in an out-of-the-way place such as a basement or garage. The system offers heat throughout the house, either by pumping warm air through a system of air ducts or more likely, sending hot water through pipes to room radiators or convectors. In London they are mostly powered by natural gas.

If your gas central heating system breaks down - it can be an expensive business to get it repaired. It can also be very inopportune. No hot water or heating in the winter is a disaster.

SO WHEN SHOULD I REPLACE IT?

If the boiler is more than 15 years old, you should think about replacing your system with one of the new, energy-efficient units. A new unit would really decrease your energy consumption, particularly if the existing apparatus is in a poor condition. An old boiler will be more expensive to run. You will see a dramatic increase in efficiency and a decrease in your gas bills.

If the system has broken down and it's 10 years old, consider replacing it. Old boilers are like old cars, as soon as they begin going wrong, they usually keep going wrong. You'll end up throwing good cash after bad renewing worn parts like PCB Boards and heat exchangers.

If you have an unreliable boiler that is regularly breaking down - replace it. Cheap makes like Ideal, Ariston or Ferroli are liable to be more unreliable than Worcester or Vaillant. Landlords and cheapskates install cheap makes of boiler. And are then astonished when they make up the difference in cost with call out charges from plumbers and gas engineers. So, do everyone a favour and buy the best boiler you can come up with the money for from a good manufacturer - that will be a German company then!

Before calling a plumbing and gas heating company - do your homework. Research the company, ask for references and most of all make sure the professional engineer despatched to you is licensed and registered with Gas Safe. A professional central heating installation will more often than not guarantee the boiler installation for a period of years.

HOW TO AVOID COSTLY HEATING REPAIRS:

Virtually every family unit has a Central Heating System in their house now and it is imperative to make sure it is running in top condition. In wintertime, the heat pump takes warmth from outside and sends it inside. Most heat pumps use electrical energy, along with the condenser and compressor. No matter whether it is an older system or a brand new one it must be checked at least once a year, in the spring or fall if at all possible, so that it runs efficiently and is cost efficient.

Obviously, it must only be checked by a certified Gas Safe technician. Thoroughly servicing your furnace, thermostats, filtration and heat pumps will help in avoiding fire hazards and can save time, cash and prevent risking your family's health. Regularly check your system to prevent these disasters from occuring. One of the main expenses for a property owner is heating. Replacing older equipment is important in reducing energy expenses, lowering it by more than 30%.

Numerous people never even think about the central heating system until it doesn’t come on. It could be a simple problem, such as the pilot light going out, doesn’t heat up or smells odd. It could be something as small as a loose wire to cause it to shut down, leaving your family freezing and uncomfortable. It is never a good idea to wait for a problem to happen. If your system breaks down at night and the temperature is freezing it will merely be much more expensive to have somebody come out to fix it. It is better and simpler to have your central heating system inspected in warmer seasons.

If you happen to smell gas in your abode, open all of the doorways and windows to allow in fresh air. Never try to diagnose the problem or fix it yourself. Immediately call a specialist and leave your home. It is very dangerous to try to do so, and you could harm your system.

Proper upkeep of your central heating system by having a specialist check and repair it can give you and your loved ones peace of mind all throughout the year.
