If you are an experienced RN looking for new challenges in your career, a travel nurse position could be the ideal new job for you. Not only will a travel nurse job give you new experiences to boost your resume and enhance your skill set – it will also provide the opportunity to experience new cities and regions of the country that you may have never visited otherwise. And if you work with a reputable travel nursing agency, it will be easy to transition from one job to the next. They will take care of everything so that you can worry about getting to work and learning the new job duties and operations at the facility of your latest position.

There are many benefits to travel nursing. The pay is typically higher than it would be for a comparable full-time nursing position, you get to see new and often exotic places, your housing and transportation are usually covered and finally, you are presented with a more challenging and diverse set of cases that will greatly improve your nursing skills. After your first travel nurse position (which might last anywhere from a few weeks to a year), you will be a much better candidate for future jobs.

If you want to find a travel nurse job and you already have at least one year of experience in your chosen nursing specialty, you can begin looking for positions. The right thing to do is tell your current supervisor about your intentions well ahead of time before you seek travel work. This way you can ensure a good reference for future job applications. Then you can begin working with a travel nursing agency that will set you up with jobs across the country, or even across the seven seas on cruise ships.

As a travel nurse, you are always free to take open jobs or pass them up, and a good agency will take care of all the details so you can concentrate on your new position.
