Professional kitchens to make our lives easier

In the past eating a meal in Italy meant sitting at the table with your own family and eating the tasty dishes prepared by mummy or by your wife during the day, but nowadays dinner is associated more to a fast dish, cooked in a little while when you are back from work, not to speak about lunch, which very often consists in a sandwich or a big salad to be bought in the bar under the office. However, although the life of Italians has become more frantic, this does not imply that they have lost the inclination towards good food that has made them famous all over the world, and if professional kitchens and appliances are achieving an increasing success, this is also due to the fact that they let us spare time and cook quickly those dishes that if cooked with our grandmothers’ appliances had a much longer preparation time.

The most modern kitchens, those which are presented during events like the Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan (this year a section of the fair called Technology for the Kitchen was entirely dedicated to appliances, as an evidence of the importance that technology has also in the kitchen), have become futuristic islands, full of instruments that can revolutionize the way we cook. Among the recent innovations of this field, which might remind us of a science-fiction novel, there are fast ovens that allow us to cook any meal in a little time, so that also those who do not have the time to cook can eat something that is not kept in a tin. And this is not all: there are ovens that not only cook in a very fast way, but that also set the cooking time of food autonomously, on the base of the kind and amount of food that you bake, and that show you how to put the pan into the oven to cook the food in the best way. This is what cooking food is concerned, but refrigerators too are more and more innovative: besides industrial and professional refrigerators with built-in ice makers, which spare you the effort to mince ice for your cocktails, there are models that notice what is missing, helping you to make the shopping list.

But you do not need to go as far as that, considering so innovative appliances, to understand that technology in very useful in the kitchen; you only need to think about some appliances that can be found in many houses, instruments that our mothers did not have at their disposal, and that now we could not do without, like deep-fryers, that let us fry food without running the risk of scorching ourselves and without diffusing an unpleasant smell throughout the house, and dishwashers: few people are still disposed to do the washing up, giving up the ease of inserting everything into dishwashers that can wash in a little time even great deals of dishes.

Thanks to those and other appliances, cooking and preserving food, doing the shopping and the washing up is easier and faster, and this gives us the time to cook and eat complete and tasty meals.
