How Reading Can Help Your Child

When we read, we get a lot of benefits from it aside from gaining knowledge, both personally and in our life as a career person. Reading can help us learn new things and it can help improve our communication skills without noticing it. The more we are exposed to correct usage of a language through the written word, we are able to imbibe such correct usage and never mind if we notice or not. It is a reality that many people have been benefiting from reading in this way whether they are aware of it or not. Children especially can benefit from this a great deal. A good way to start them into the habit is by having the entire family join reading groups such as the Doubleday Large Print Book Club. There are three basic ways in which reading can help your kids.

Firstly, those who grew up reading books have a higher chance of excelling in their studies and finding great jobs. But we're not talking about occasional readers or comic book readers who are mostly dealing with incorrect or informal usage of a language. Those who can benefit from this are those who loves reading and can pick out a book from a shelf without the help of an adult. These are the children who, in one way or another, are planning to join book clubs. By developing this kind of habit, they can not only master the written word, they can also improve their intellectual abilities. Parents can use other means to develop this but reading is one of the most effective ways to do so.

Secondly, the kid who reads is a kid who learns. We are not only talking about books that dealt subject matter the children also discuss in school such as chemistry, biology and the like. Even reading fiction has its benefits. Through the book, a child's mind is opened to the many possibilities of life as might be presented by what he's reading. Though one may think that an actual experience may be better, reading can help a child deal with things that may happen in his life and he will not be oblivious about it or ignorant about it anymore. Reading can expose the child to different kinds of situations which he can learn from and he can use in the future. When he will be confronted with a similar situation in the future, he can be able to properly deal with it because he was able to read about it before.

Improving the child's writing ability is the third benefit in reading. While it is easy to say that a speaker is a good one just by listening to his pronunciation and delivery, not all good speakers are good writers. There are good speakers but when it's time for them to write, they find it hard to construct good written sentences. But a person who is good in writing, is most probably, good in speaking as well. A child's writing skills can be improved by exposing him to correct and formal usage of language through reading published books. This way, the kid masters the language subconsciously which is, by the way, the best method for learning anything, whether not related to language.

Another benefit from reading is the improvement of ones writing ability. While it is easy to say that a speaker is a good one just by listening to his pronunciation and delivery, not all good speakers are good writers. Sometimes, good speakers talk but wouldn't know how to construct good written sentences. But most probably, a person who is good in writing is also good in speaking. If you want to improve your child's writing ability, get him to read books. By reading, he will be exposed to correct language utilization and correct strucutre of sentences through the published books he reads. The child can eventually master the language subconsciously.

Author Resource:- If you're not sure how to start getting your child into reading, begin online and find such book clubs as the Literary Guild Book Club, the Mystery Guild Book Club and so many others. There are membership fees and perhaps, some cash to shell out every now and then, but the long-term rewards are incomparable both for your child and for you as fulfilled parents.
