The human skeleton is literally the backbone and frame of our bodies. Human beings have always been amazed and scared by skeleton. For many years now skeleton models have always been a great source of study of the human body for the medical fraternity and students. Skeleton has helped researchers understand the anatomy of the human body. Traditionally human skeleton was used for study but of late skeleton models are being used for the study of the human body right from junior school to medical research institutions.
Anatomical skeleton models and medical skeleton models are being put to great use by doctors, medical students, dentists, chiropractors and teachers to study the human body. These are valuable tools for patients research and student education. Fully dissectable human torsos are also being used abundantly in the field of medical research. Although these skeleton models are easily available in the market, basic models can also be self made.

Following is the process of making a skeleton model at home:
1) Skeleton models can be made out of many materials including paper, plastic and casting plaster. Among all these casting plaster is the best as it can be used as a teaching skeleton model compared to ones made with paper which get spoilt very easily.
2) The first step in making a skeleton model would involve the study of exact shape and size of the skeleton. You can use an actual model, pictures from your book or the Internet to exactly know the shape and structure of the model you need to make.
3) Once that is done you need to create a curving set for plaster to settle down. This can be made using things easily available at home such as paper, plastic and other utensils. Even if you plan to make a complex skeleton model it is advisable to make it in small parts and assemble it later.
4) You will need to attach various skeletal parts to make a complete skeleton and thus you should use eyelet screws, fishing line or high tensile metal thread as connectors. Ensure that these connectors are properly cast inside the casting plaster. These connectors can be placed before pouring the plaster or in it's drying state.
5) Casting plaster has a property of drying up pretty fast so you need to do the carving while it is drying. You can use your hand to do the carving but in case you are a perfectionist you can use other tools from screwdriver to toothbrush for this job.
6) Correct the loopholes by using some more carving plaster after the skeleton has been removed from the cast.
7) Connect the various pieces of skeleton that you have made using the connectors ensuring that they remain stable. You can use things like rubber band, glue and other things for this purpose.
8) Your skeleton model is now ready. Apply some more casting plaster to cover the connectors and give it a finished look. You can also use some pain over your skeleton should you feel the need. Skeletons however look authentic in white.
It is important for you to make sure that the skeleton model is stored properly. Casting plaster is very brittle and can break very easily.
