Online Nursing Programs Helping to Fix the Nursing Shortage

Online nursing programs have emerged as a viable option for students looking to get trained for a lucrative and rewarding health care career while continuing to work and/or care for their families. It has become especially important that online nursing courses are available now that a nursing shortage is sweeping the nation. As the need for nurses continues to rise and the available resources at traditional colleges and universities continue to diminish, organizations such as The College Network are making it possible for more nurses to enter the workforce who might have not otherwise been able to get the necessary education to do so.

There are many different types of online nursing programs through reputable and accredited institutions that students can choose from. There are associates degree programs for those who want to begin a career as a LVN or LPN or for those looking to complete the first two years of nursing school online before moving to a four-year university to complete the additional two years required for a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. There are also online bachelors degree programs in which nurses can complete most of the coursework online and finish up the hands-on classes at an accredited college campus. And there are masters degree programs available online as well, which are perfect for RNs looking to take their career to the next level.

Organizations such as The College Network are helping correct the nursing shortage by enabling students to get their degrees in nontraditional ways. Some people can’t attend all the required classes at a traditional university because of their work and family schedules. Others have been turned away from college campuses because there just aren’t enough openings due to budget constraints. Now many of those same people are online student nurses.

Online nursing schools allow students to work at their own pace and in their own time to obtain the certificates, degrees or continued training they need to enter the nursing profession or to take their nursing career further than they may have been able to otherwise.
