Sports Memorabilia Collecting Tips

Being a memorabilia collector, especially in the field of sports memorabilia, is one of the most exciting and challenging field for a collector, particularly for those who love sports and who admires great athletes. Some collectors might try collecting sports memorabilia for the sheer pleasure of a challenge, or others might venture into a more profitable pursuit. Whatever it may be, if you are one of those thinking of selling your old autographed baseball cards kept over the years, it will be helpful to determine the ins and outs of the sports memorabilia trade.
Since you started thinking of collecting sports memorabilia, try to narrow your choices for sports. Do you prefer collecting autographed memorabilia from basketball, hockey, football or golf? Be specific and as much as possible, well informed about the kind of sports you would venture into. Have a background of the players you would want to have your memorabilia signed. If you do not have any profile or information about them, you cannot expect to be well informed about the value of their memorabilia. As a result, you might undervalue or overprice the said sports memorabilia of the athlete you are aiming for. Always remember that the more popular an athlete is, especially if that popular athlete has passed away, the higher the value of the sports memorabilia.
If you already have a list of popular athletes, contemplate on what kind of memorabilia will be profitable. You are lucky enough if you get to have original signed jerseys from the athlete himself. Dennis Rodman is well known for throwing his jerseys at the stands after his games were over. There are also signed photo collage, signed helmets, signed hockey sticks, signed basketballs, and even signed baseball bats. These kinds of memorabilia are worth a fortune, especially if the sports item is from the owner itself. However, do not lose hope if you cannot acquire these precious items. Try to be resourceful and have a photo collage of them signed and custom framed. They are also worth a lot. Take photos of the most unforgettable moments, such as when Muhammad Ali gracefully hits and opponent or Michael Jordan perfectly makes a slum dunk move. Use your high-end camera to produce good shots and have it signed. You will only have a one-of-a kind photo worth framing at a valuable price.
Do you know that a single sports memorabilia with multiple signature of the whole team is worth a fortune? If you have a baseball memorabilia of the New York Yankees, a basketball memorabilia of the Los Angeles Lakers, or a football memorabilia of the Dallas Cowboys, then you have a very valuable memorabilia that would make you think twice of selling it.

If you plan on keeping it or selling it, just make sure that you know the real value of the autographed memorabilia. Have an authenticity certificate on hand. And if you are undecided about how much you plan on selling your sports memorabilia, you can compare over the internet for similar items, or better yet, just have it appraised by an expert and rest assured of any doubts of the real value of the autographed memorabilia. Last but not the least, do this for the enjoyment of a hobby, and not just for the money, and you will get to appreciate and value the beauty of sports memorabilia collection.
