Parents have a huge impact on the development of their children. It is viewing that there exist a strong relationship between the parents and their children. It has been viewed that some specific actions of the parents later developed and found in the behavior of their children. Children living in a same house do not mean that they all have the same personalities. Every child has his own personality and behavior but both these factors are greatly influence by their parents (Madison, 1998). The ways in which the parents treat them are always found in the personality of their children.
Parenting styles are the actual standard strategies that parents use in rising of their children. The four parenting styles are use by the parents in the development of their children. These include Authoritative, Authoritarian, Permissive, and Uninvolved. These parenting styles significantly affect the children. Research has shown that parenting style is largely affect by the influence of one’s own parents and culture. These are the styles that the parents learnt from their own parents. Therefore, it is a process that will keep on moving generation after the generation. The four parenting styles have distinct characteristics that distinguish them from each other. However, there are also some similarities in them.
The first parenting style is known as Authoritative Parenting style. In this style parents set some rules, values and guidelines that they wanted their children to follow. The provided rules are very clear and cannot be change for any purpose. The parents who used this type of style in the development of their children encourage them to be independent but at the same time they are force to remain in limits and under control on their actions. These aspects show a strict parenting behavior, but it is not so much like that. Authoritative parenting allows their children to make their own decisions on the basis of their own reasoning. They always demand from their children to show maturity. In case of immaturity or misbehavior they very strictly punish them. The greatest aspect of this parenting style is that when they punish their children they always explain them clearly the motive of the punishment. This is because they wanted their children to know what is right and wrong for them. They take a good care of the needs of their children and mostly prefer to forgive them instead of punishing them. They are friendly and co-operative with their children. Authoritative parenting style helps a child to develop a high self esteem (Barber, 1998). Their children are independent and have a full confidence in them. Their high confidence level helps to achieve high rank in the school.
Authoritarian Parenting is a second style of growing the children. It has some similarities with the Authoritative parenting style but also differs because of its some distinct characteristics. Like authoritative parenting, in authoritarian parenting parents are also very strict. They also expect that their children must follow their rules and directions. In authoritative parenting, parents explain the reasoning of their rules, but it does not happen in authoritarian parenting style. They just forced their children to follow their established rules. Another factor that is lacking in authoritarian parenting is that they are unresponsive to their needs and concerns. Due to a strict rules and regulations the children are not allow to communicate openly with their parents. They always demand for best from their children and do not answer to their questions. They imposed their children such restrictions, which affects badly on their growing personalities. Due to which they lack confidence and cannot take initiatives. Therefore, the children who grow under the guidance of such parents lack the social competence.

Another parenting style is permissive style, sometime also known as indulgent parenting style. This style is quite different from the above mentioned styles in this manner that it is having a character of warm effect. Parents always keep an eye on their children and have some behavioral expectations. They are very much involved with their children and quickly response to the needs, wishes of their children. They do not expect more from their children. They are very rarely punished and show an immature attitude. All these aspects collectively affect the behavior of an individual. As a result of these parenting styles the children get low level in the school. Not only this have had they attracted toward the drugs. They very rarely learn to respect others. The reason behind it is that parents have a less control in improving their behavior.
