If there’s one thing that’s sure in business, it’s swapping business cards among business owners and marketers. It is the one thing that every business owner indulges in. Exchanging a business card printing material is a regular thing especially when you are attending a networking activity or even buying milk in the local grocery.

As it is a regular activity in business, exchanging business cards then is a transaction that should be learned by every business owner. Said activity can be smooth or awkward depending on how you engage in the activity. Here then are some guidelines for you as a business owner to follow for a smoother way of handing out your cards.

Do be prepared when handing out your cards.
Always have your business card printing materials with you wherever you go, no matter where you are. Be always ready to present them to your target clients or colleagues in the business. And it doesn’t matter the time of day or the day of the week. Every minute, every day and every moment is an opportunity for you to market your business with your cards. As long as you can hand them out to anybody that you’ve talked to, it will always be a golden opportunity for you to generate leads that can turn into profitable clients.

Do be ready to hand out your cards every time.
You don’t need to wait for a big convention or trade exhibit to hand out your business cards. As I’ve said, every day, every minute, and every moment, and wherever you are is an opportunity for you to network and market your business. Hence, the need for you to present yourself in your cards. No matter where you are at the moment, initiate a conversation with another person because you might be surprised that that person is a potential client that can turn into a profitable business lead for you. So hand out that card.

Do get business cards properly in return.
Always accept a business card in return. But be conscious of the proper decorum of doing so. There is a proper etiquette to exchanging of cards. When you accept a business card always have a good look at it before you keep it in your pocket or purse. Try to compliment on the logo or design to keep the connection between you and the person who gave you the business card.

Do make smooth transaction of giving out your cards.
And it goes without saying that you have to make the exchange of cards as smooth as possible. Don’t commit a faux pas by asking someone who has a higher position than you to give you their card. Wait for them to make an offer first. Always remember that if they want to give you their card they will give it without you asking for it.

Do go for free marketing.
You don’t have to hand your cards yourself. You can always take advantage of free advertising provided by other businesses. For example, you can have your cards posted in the community bulletin board; or you can place a bundle of your cards inside a bowl and then put it near the cash register of a local restaurant. This way, you can have other establishments distribute your business card printing without having to do it yourself.

Exchanging business cards is a regular activity when in business. So be mindful of the proper etiquette of handing out a card so you can attract more leads to your business.
