Whether it’s because of an accident or because of internal wear and malfunction problems, cars break down. When yours is in need of repair procedures, it’s good to know that it will be taken care of by a trustworthy car auto shop. Here are just a few things you should consider in order to make sure you find a shop that provides you with top quality services at an honest price.
It Pays to Shop Around
Don’t just go for the first car repair shop you see or one that you picked based on proximity. While convenience is good, it definitely pays to shop around a bit before submitting your vehicle for repair at any particular shop. One good place to start looking is online. You can easily find a list of auto shops in your area just by searching on Google; San Diego auto repair shops are abundant. Look at the shop’s website and their company history and pay attention to the consumer reviews that they have available (on their site or on directories). If a shop has a lot of complaints from users, obviously you should stay away from it. Doing your homework online helps narrow down your search.

Tour the Shop
When you go to visit the actual shops you’re interested in, ask to get a tour. Some shops will decline due to safety reasons, especially if there are repairs being conducted at the time of your visit, but many shops won’t mind. While you’re being shown around, pay attention to the condition of the shop. Is it clean and well lit? Does the equipment look modern? Do they offer the services you need, included smog tests? Talk to the mechanics and ask about their work. How long they have been working there, what they specialize in, etc. Keep an eye on the walls and see what certifications and awards are there. Before you turn over your car for repairs, ask what the shop’s policies are. What happens if you’re not happy with the repairs? All of these are questions you should ask and you should try to get answers in writing.
Compare Estimates
Get a written estimate for the job you need from every one of the shops you’re considering. Make sure you understand every part of it, and have the mechanics explain any sections you don’t understand. In some cases, you can even let them know you are shopping around; they may just cut you a deal if they are aware of the competition.
Thoroughly Inspect Results
Once you decide on a shop and turn your car over to them for repairs, you’ll want to make sure you thoroughly inspect the job they did on your vehicle. San Diego smog tests are routine enough, but make sure they are not trying to take advantage of you. If you notice anything questionable or that was not on the contract, you’ll want to notify the shop and ask about it immediately, as this will give you the best chance to set things straight.
