When thinking of things to do that will amuse and most importantly keep the little ones busy throughout the half term break we need to consider things that will not just stimulate them but also tire the little ones so we adults can have an enjoyable peaceful evening knowing that our little treasures are well and truly happy and shattered!

Holidays abroad are becoming somewhat of a distant memory, something we used to do when enjoying the great financial freedom and frivolous over indulgent economic atmosphere. The costs of going abroad is an ever increasing expense, so it’s no wonder families in particular, are looking at places to visit Lake District. There is so much to do in the Cumbrian county that covers all genres so there is no reason why anyone should not find any activity they love in this area. The Lake District holds many attractions and again offers the ability to wear our children out so mum and dad can enjoy a lovely glass of wine by the lake while our little one’s sleep soundly in their beds. There is so much to do and see during the day and so many ways to unwind in the evening. It really does suit all people and all ages. The Lake District, in fact Cumbria as a whole, was hit hard in tourism industry by the foot and mouth episode. From February 2001 through to September 2001 hundreds of farms throughout Cumbria were struck with foot and mouth disease. The exact numbers of animals affected will never be publicly admitted, but informed guesses suggest some 20,000,000 animals were killed throughout the UK, many of them healthy, in an attempt to stop the spread of disease. This prevented many people from coming to the county and enjoying its many Lake District activities.

This then allowed the flood gates for overseas tourism to over flow.

Well Cumbria and the Lake District are now back in action with more places open to the public than ever before. There are now so many hidden treasures discovered and now available to be shared with us. The overseas tourism industry is now starting to lack the many followers as previous times due to ever increasing fuel taxes and taxes on purely enjoying yourself in the sun! We have been having the best weather yet which makes the Lake District look even more attractive. The flowers are in full bloom and the shrubs and tress with blossom add that’s extra colour to every view. Lambs in some fields and calves in others an irresistible glance while on your journey to the Lake District. The beaches too, the Cumbrian coast line offers some of the most spectacular views being able to see clearly from Arnside across the water to Grange Over Sands, the train that goes from Arnside to Grange Over Sands is a sight to behold while sat looking out to see and the train on the bridge in the distance. We have the prime opportunity to discover our England and our Lake District. Let’s go there and enjoy our country.
