In the United Kingdom, the people’s interest for fine dining and real quality food is constantly growing. Numerous TV shows and the large exposure of TV chefs are drawing people towards foods that are very healthy and nicely flavored. Because amateur chefs are now becoming more interested in learning how to mix the numerous international flavors with British traditional ones, it seems that the days of chips and fried foods are now gone.

Throwing a dinner party for friends or family, serving gourmet quality food can be very rewarding and great fun. Many people even start having an everyday set of tableware and a set of fine china for special events.

China pottery and tableware can be expensive but is an investment that should last for many years. Keeping your china tableware looking new is just a matter of proper care and storage. With the right containers and plenty of space, your china pottery and tableware can be maintained, may be even to a standard for passing down to future generations. China tableware is certainly a long-term investment, if looked after. Here some guidelines:

1) Find a large area to store your china pottery. More space means less damage as you can move your China porcelain around easier.

2) China tableware it is very delicate and will chip easily. Handle china pottery with care.

3) Place felt between your fine China plates. The felt should be slightly smaller than the circumference of each pottery plate size. Bubble wrap is an alternative protective material to place between plates, but felt is less cumbersome.

4) Homeware stores offer special storage boxes and bags for China pottery. The bags are usually made of cardboard hybrids or soft cloth and have zippers to protect China mugs, jugs, bowls and plates from dust and scratches.

5) Store China mugs, cups, jugs, bowls, plates and other pieces in a single level on a designated shelf. Invert lids for jugs and bowls and place them on felt between the base and lid.

6) Do not stack china plates more than 5 to 7 inches high. However this depends on the size of your storage bag and storage area.

7) Stack China plates inside storage bags with bubble wrap or felt pieces in between. Always keep same size China plates and other tableware together.

Finally, don’t be too precious about your china pottery. Enjoy the use of it and don’t keep it stored away for very special occasions only.
