Stop Smoking

It is common knowledge that smoking is extremely unhealthy and damaging to the quality of your life in the long run. It mentally and physically affects both you and the people around you by second hand smoking. Just like other dependencies and drugs, cigarettes are fun at first, they become rather important in your life and they later tend to condition the decisions you make. But your reading this is a meaningful sign that you want to break the cycle, stop smoking thus improving your life. Nobody decides they want to be a smoker but they should be able to decide when to stop smoking.

Smoking is so hard to kick because in the first years of doing it, when addiction sets in, the negative effects are not visible and can be ignored. The next thing you know, you have difficulty climbing the stairs, cough your lungs out or you are not able to feel the real taste of food – but you still can’t stop smoking. In reality, while you inhale the smoke, your lungs are intoxicated, your life is cut by 5 minutes for each cigarette, your body absorbs over 4000 chemicals that can cause cancer, increase the risk of stroke, heart disease and much more. Basically, when you stop smoking, you increase your life expectancy. You choose a healthier life and you show that you appreciate it for the gift that it is.

The statistics concerned smoking is alarming: while in developed countries more people choose to stop smoking, in developing countries the smoking rate is on the rise with approximately 3 every year; almost 100 000 of young people between 13 and 15 years old start smoking every day worldwide and 50 of them will continue doing it for around 15 to 20 years. Around 15 billion cigarettes are sold every day, causing a person to die every 8 seconds from tobacco use because they aren’t able to stop smoking.

If the statistics is not convincing enough to make you stop smoking, all you need to do is look around you or be more self conscious about the effects your own tobacco use has on your health and daily routine. You are controlled by this substance that your body got used to, you need cigarettes breaks, considerable amount of your budget is devoted to it, your non smoking friends and others acquaintances are annoyed by it because you also jeopardize their health. Not to mention that if you are a parent you should stop smoking and offer a good example to your children.

While the irreversible damages produces by cigarettes are growing everyday you need to be aware of the many things you will gain if you stop smoking: the risk of cancers (lung, cervical, kidney, throat and many others)is considerably reduced or avoided, circulation improves, heart disease and risk of stroke is reduced, coughing and shortness of breath is eliminated while your house and clothes will smell fresh and clean again.

Stop smoking because you do not need to poison yourself in order to feel relaxed or comfortable with yourself. Your social life will improve and your closed ones will thank you for protecting their health as well when you stop smoking.
