Not all people who understand the need to have a website actually understand the difference between a web designer and a web developer. But we are dead wrong. The two need to be differentiated since the success of a website relies on the capabilities of the two.
Although their functions naturally overlap, there are clear differences between a designer and a developer. Developers are concerned with in-depth and technical knowledge into making the design work while a designer is only concerned with designing the entire website. Designers create the design while developers may create the design and incorporate the needed codes to make the entire website operational. A designer, therefore, is dependent on the developer, while a developer actually is independent and can make the site work.

The question is, should you hire a web designer or a web developer? The most essential difference between the two is not very hard to understand. When we talk about the content and its presentation, a designer will come in very useful. Knowing which color combinations will work, shapes that complement each other are just a few of the functions that a designer does. The design usually ends up more attractive and more engaging to website visitors. This is the advantage of hiring a designer. A developer however, is less creative and innovative but he can create a design himself. Settling for a more conventional technique is one of the traits that a developer has. A developer, however, can make the entire website functional by using his technical sklls that allow him to lodge this design onto a usable domain which customers can now access.
Understanding the difference between the two is important. This is because a client who wants to make a site should know what to expect from the professional he is hiring. If he is to work with a web developer, he may find the product to be very plain and technical-looking but functional. Hiring a designer, on the other hand, will yield a more attractive website but a client may be frustrated because he will now need another person to make the design functional.
Satisfying clients needs is very important when hiring someone for a job. If this is not done properly, the quality may be compromised. Therefore, the client must be able to communicate all his expectations from the person he chooses to hire so that no frustrations and regrets will happen in the future. After all, it wouldn't matter what content management system. The most vital is meeting the clients expectations whether what cms you are using.
