The aim of this research paper is to study the connection between Mackenzie king’s policies during the second world war and Canadian relationship with the United states during and after the period between 1939to 1957. The research paper undertakes to find out how Mackenzie kings policy helped to shape the relationship between Canada and the United States of America. This is a crucial research questions for all history students and policy makers especially who wants to understand and shape international relationships among countries.
Background of the research.
During the Second World War Canada and US became closer. During the second world Germany inverted Poland causing the Second World War. Within the same period all European countries found themselves in horrific atrocity which was started by Hitler. Canada being a great friend of Britain wanted to help them during the war however Mackenzie had a problem of deciding whether to assists Britain through sending troupes to Great Britain. During the same period the United States of America had resolved not to join the war in a European soil and it at this time kings policy of adopting a stance similar to that one adapted to United States.
Statement of the problem

I chose to work on this problem because it indirectly affects the modern international affairs and behavior of nations towards each other during times of needs. The fight against terrorism is currently undertaken by many nations in the world as well as there is Middle East crisis which requires international attention and countries must support each other. The success of this war will be possible if countries understand their history their past relationships and where they want to be. To understand king’s policies during the Second World War and the impact they had on the relationship between Canada and US will give a lifeline in international affairs relating the fight against terrorism. During this period the Great Britain was a great friend of Canada but king adopted a policy initially that assumed that the war a Europe was an European affair and therefore there was no need to join the war. This was the policy the United States of America had adopted.
There is relationship between historical polices adopted during those period that is affecting the modern relationship among nation. When a policy was set in 1939 for example supporting the United States policies on war the new people in government will try to follow the foot steps of king’s policies. Although this will encounter new challenges obstacles but there will be no much differences in handling the relationships of these two countries.
