Michael Faraday first used gases similar to Ammonia in air conditioning. Nevertheless, these chemicals were deadly, harmful and extremely lethal. These gases affected the ozone layer and thus phased out.
Industries use Ammonia chiller to keep their raw material and finished product secured. It is required in industries who make chemicals, food, beverages and many more. It is a better choice than R22 refrigerant.

Ammonia chillers are proper for industries, which require a regular temperature of 25 degree Fahrenheit. This process has the chief ingredient Ammonia which is light refrigerant having high-energy value thus resulting in better refrigeration. However, in comparison to Air chiller, Ammonia chiller is cost demanding. In the long run it turns out to be profitable. The profit can be anywhere around 30%.
Technological development has made the procedure economical and efficient. Presently the design is compact and similarly efficient to provide the desired cooling temperature. With a cooling tower pumping system, the performance is improved. This technology offers the same cooling performance even when the industry runs at its total capacity. With contemporary design and development, the risk of Ammonia leakage has been removed and the mechanism keeps working for a longer period.
The fundamental work of refrigeration is to reduce the environmental temperature and maintain a constant cooling of the area. It is a widely accepted technology, which is seen in every household and other industrial enterprise. The use of Ammonia in refrigeration utilizes less energy and as such, it is vastly used in freezing plants, slaughterhouse, breweries, wineries, diaries and many more for the past many decades. At this juncture no other can put out a challenge to the use of Ammonia in refrigeration and chilling.
The advantage of Ammonia in today's technology is that it requires undersized dimension piping and throttle cross-sections. Ammonia is not compatible with copper, thus different methods are used and a few companies have the expertise in this regard. Moreover, Ammonia is not a unstable gas but has a bitter smell, which is not harmful to human. It can give a temporary irritation and bad smell in the neighborhood in the event of leakage.
Today the air conditioner could give less performance if the coil for evaporation is not perfectly maintained. The refrigerant circulates in the coil therefore it is pertinent one should clean it often.
