For upgrading the radio in any car, the first step is to remove the radio from that car. It is actually quite easy to remove the radio from a high end car like Mazda if you follow the steps exactly as it is provided here. Put the gear in the neutral position, set the parking brake and turn off the engine. After following these steps, open the hood of the car and disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery. It is absolutely necessary that you disconnect the battery from the car before proceeding to remove the radio from the car. If the battery is not disconnected from the car then there may be short circuiting or electrical shocks. So make sure that you follow this step for your own safety.

For removing the gear shift knob rotate it in the counter clockwise direction. After a few rotations you will find the knob loosening; after loosening it remove the gear shift knob. Now remove the console from the car. You will find that the console extends to the ashtray. After removing the console you will find a couple of screws located in the underside of the climate control panel. Remove both the screws by rotating them in counter clockwise direction, with the help of a screw driver.

Next you need to access the radio side mounting bolt. For gaining this access you need to remove the glove box. Now squeeze the sides of the glove box together so that it drops down. This will reveal the 10 mm bolt on the left side of the glove compartment. Remove this bolt with the help of a socket wrench.

You will find that the radio and the climate control are mounted on the same assembly. Loosen the entire assembly so that the whole setup can be removed. The air vent covers are included in the panel. Remove this cover. Turn the cover upside down. There will be twelve screws located on the cover. These screws are responsible for mounting the climate and the radio controls. Remove all the 12 screws with the help of a screw driver. Once all the screws are removed, the radio can be removed from the car. After removing the old radio, you can now install the new radio. The steps involved in the installation of the radio are exactly the reverse of the steps mentioned above. Replace the screws and the covers. Now put the gear back to its original position and connect the negative cable back to the negative terminal of the car’s battery.

With the help of this article you would have learnt how to remove the radio from a Mazda6. Follow the steps and enjoy the music with your new customized radio.
