The first step in this process is to disconnect the battery of the car. The negative end of the battery is removed from it with the help of any specialized tool.

After disconnecting the battery, the door can be opened and face the stereo. Look at the stereo carefully. You will notice that each of the four corners is small with flat slots. These slots are so small that a key must be inserted into it. Every key has a kind of notch that is very small in size. Slide in the notch of these keys into the slots that are provided at the corner of the radio. Do it in a way that the keys in the left have its notch pointed towards the right and similarly the right keys pointing toward the left.

After inserting the keys in the proper direction, slide it in. This will make you possible to push the tools for radio removal. Push it in till there is a click. Once the tools click in place, pull the tools out with the help of both the hands. This will make the stereo to slide out tool remove it and place it outside the dash. Once the stereo is out, hold it in one hand. Then, remove the plugs connecting antenna lead, the CD changer as well as the GPS leads in case they are present. Also remove the wiring harness with the help of hands and pop the clips that are on top of the harness.

These tools that are used for removing the radio are generally available in all shops that sell stereos and other accessories for the car. Some tools specially designed for Volkswagen might also be available. The removal and disconnection of the battery may not be necessary always in this process. This can be avoided if the key is not put in the ignition. The key must never be inserted while removing the harness.
