The Mayo Clinic, the FDA and other health experts provide advice about how to find the best rated over the counter wrinkle cream. Why would health experts provide advice concerning anti wrinkle treatments? Because, ultimately, wrinkles, age spots and other unwanted signs of aging are symptoms of health problems.
We know that, because premature aging (gray hair, wrinkles, etc) are often seen in people suffering from illness and disease. Aging gracefully, it seems, does not mean accepting the common signs of age.

Researchers have looked for the underlying causes of an aged appearance for many years. There have been many theories about what causes wrinkles, but only recently have scientists been able to “see” what’s going on at a molecular level.
What they have found is that the things that cause cellular aging inside of the body are causes of the outward appearance of aging, as well. That might seem logical, but it has been relatively difficult to prove.
Researchers have long been aware that the sun plays a role in skin aging, primarily from evidence comparing the appearance of sun worshippers to those that prefer to stay in the shade. As it turns out, it is the molecular damage done by UV rays of sunlight. The best rated over the counter wrinkle cream, according to most experts, is one that contains antioxidants, because they can repair the molecular damage done by UV radiation.
The majority of sources recommend the regular use of sunscreen, but many sunscreens were never evaluated for safety or effectiveness before being released. The FDA advises that a person use protective clothing as a way to avoid sunburn and skin cancer. That would help people avoid wrinkles caused by UV damage, too.
According to the Mayo Clinic and other sources, the best rated over the counter wrinkle cream will contain coenzyme Q10, because some studies have shown that it protects against sun damage, if applied before sun exposure. Other studies have shown that it can reverse sun damage, too. Participants that use a cream containing it for three months had a 28 overall reduction in sun damage.
You’ll need to be consistent if you want to see results. It sometimes takes weeks or months to see any benefit, unless your skin happens to be really dry.
Experts agree that the best rated over the counter wrinkle cream will contain moisturizing ingredients, because dried out skin cells look dull and wrinkled. If they are able to absorb the moisture in a skincare product, they glow, look plump and fine lines are smoothed out.
The experts don’t always agree about what the most moisturizing ingredients may be, but one study showed that an ingredient called Cynergy TK which contains Functional Keratin improved the skin’s moisture content by 27 and a 22 improvement was present 24 hours after treatment. After 18 days of use, the skin’s ability to retain moisture improved by 14 .
So, it seems that the best rated over the counter wrinkle cream should contain Functional Keratin. It seems to actually “heal” the skin.
