A little research would tell you that there are actually three types of neck ties ' modern ties, ascots and the bowties. The ascots are very rarely worn nowadays but the modern ties and bowties are still very much used. Both however, may not be suitable for all occasions. But a rarer knowledge is this: it's not just the type, the knot or the material of the neck ties that you need choose with care, it is the color too. Like everything else, there is a meaning behind each color of the neck ties. Getting caught in an event wearing a tie color that denotes a different message than the one you intended is not only embarrassing, but bad for your image. So how would you know the right one to choose? Well, read on.
Classic Black

Everyone knows that this is a color associated with authority, formality, and power so it's nothing new to say that it is a safe color to wear to work. And since the color also exudes mysteriousness and seductiveness, you can wear it to work and then straight for a fun night out. If you're invited to a black tie event, it's quite obvious that you shouldn't be wearing any other color. Not only will you make a fool out of yourself, you would also be disrespecting the host. That aside, you should know that this is a color for grieving, thus making it possibly the only color fit to be worn to a funeral.
Power Color
Many cultures find that red is a powerful color, one that would bring them wealth, passion and even good luck. This is a color of fire and energy. Choose a dark shade of this color, like Les Copain's burgundy red, to work to emphasize that you are in charge and also passionate with what you do. It doesn't matter if it is of solid color, striped, or checkered. While a darker shade of Les Copain's burgundy red would be more suitable to wear to a serious function, such as a meeting, you would want to tone down the color when it comes to casual outings. You don't want to come across as an overly-serious person.
A Dash of Softness
What color should you wear on a date? If you're bold enough, take up a rosy pink tie. It signifies friendship, romance and feminine qualities. Many men out there do not dare to wear this so-called girlish color for fear of being looked down. But ladies really appreciate a man who dares to wear it as it also says something about the man's confidence level. Not to mention, plenty of men do look good in pink. You really never know until you've given it a shot. That aside, you can wear this color to a high impact function too. All eyes would be on you, but for all the right reasons. Again, it will display your confidence as well as your forward fashion sense.
Golden Sun
Yet another color that men avoid, yellow represents radiance, energy and liveliness. Again, you really have to be brave enough to wear this color; otherwise you wouldn't be able to live up to its meaning. But beware! You can easily turn into a fashion disaster if you mismatch this bright colored tie. It is best to pick a plain tie like Jos A Bank's yellow tie or one with simple patterns. That way, you can match it to any plain white shirts with no trouble at all.
