You'll find nothing that compares to the sensation of being on stage, or the butterflies in your gut right when you walk out. It's a wonderful sensation knowing that you are going to provide amusement to a sizeable group of folks. For however long you are on stage, you're bringing them into a universe that you helped create. A world filled with wonder, pleasure, agony or despair. You are able to make them laugh, cry, or stand up and cheer.
You can even improve people's lives. If you are working in a play together with a solid moral message the impact can be astounding. While you deliver someone into a different world that you will be building on stage, an individual's defenses are diminished. Their minds as well as hearts become open to the concept that is being conveyed.
You will also learn a lot about yourself by acting. As you research a character, you also study yourself. In the process of transforming into your persona, you find way to relate your real life experiences. A part of you will become the character and a part of the character will become you. The further you go with a character the more believable the experience becomes for both the crowd as well as you. Now don't get me wrong, it is not the easiest work to get into. You will need a lot of hard work, research, and perseverance. Even after all that, there is no assure that you could make a steady career out of it. Several actors study for years and years, go to the best universities, yet get none of the breaks. Other people get discovered while eating lunch at a fast food joint. There isn't any system for making it big. If anyone tries to offer you one, just hide your wallet and run the other way.
Go out and grab yourself a publication on performing from your neighborhood bookstore or better yet the library (hey, it's free). Research all you can. Search the net, there is a ton of free info right out there. There are also loads of video tutorials you can purchase. During the summer take the opportunity and go to an acting camp. You can also find courses all over the country throughout the year.
The truly great point is, there are always places to go to act. Nearly every town has a theatre troop of some kind. If not, just go ahead and start one yourself. There are many folks who want to get up on stage. All you need to do is look. So quit sitting there dreaming you could become the people you watch on tv or at the cinema. Get up, get out and start acting!
