As many of us use our computers more and more, we often require different methods which help save our work and make all the files which are deemed as important safe and less likely to be lost. We can use methods such as an external zip drive or save small documents to USB memory sticks which can be easily carried around, but sometimes we may find that we are unable to use a back system of this type. As the advances made in information technology have increased over the past decade, we now rely on our computers and the internet in order to the main bulk of our work whether it be work for our careers or simply using our computers for pleasure, such as viewing our photographs or listening to music. One of the most advantageous developments that have been made in the internet world recently has been the introduction of online backup services. These allow the user to back up important files and documents from their computer via the internet, using a third party online back up service.
We often use the internet for a multitude of tasks as its fact paced nature and ability to view many different files and websites at once provide us with more versatility than your standard computer. Not only it is simple and secure, but online backup is a much more economical method of backing up your work as not additional equipment is required. It also provides a safer sense of security, as regardless of whether your computer or hard drive was stolen or damaged in some way, your work will still be safe as your online back up service will be able to easily restore any lost information from your computer. But how exactly does it work?

Research shows that up to 42 of data loss is due to some type of mechanical error, whilst 34 of data loss occurs from plain human error. For this reason, to not backup your work is simply irresponsible. When you complete a piece of work on your computer, you would usually save this on to your computers memory or the C Drive, and in some cases may also save this to an external storage device such as a zip drive. In terms of online back up, you send your documents or files over the internet to another computer which then acts as your remote backup. If at any time you were to lose your file, you can simply reconnect to the third party computer and recover the file you require. It also holds a great advantage for businesses who use this as a method of storing data as it can be accessed anywhere in the world, which makes it simple in terms of sharing important files with one another. It is also great for those who need to travel for their field of work, as they can then access any information they require without the need for an external storage device. You can easily get online back up to your computer by firstly installing software to your computer and any other computer you will want to access these files from. Once you have done this, you can easily connect to the backup computer and select the files which you wish to have stored. Alternatively, you can use a web based backup service which can be accessed easily from your web browser. This method is much easier to use in terms of operating the system and sharing files, but you are provided with less storage space than if you use software.
Like humans, computers can be unpredictable and so it is important that we take measures such as these to protect our files. Online back up services make file sharing and storing all the more easier and safe, leaving you filled with a sense of security.
