The car stereo is a very important part of the car and has been coming up with a variety of features. These features are developed in such a way that they can be adapted by the older players too with a little modification. The power speakers, woofers, tweeters, amplifiers, etc. can be upgraded. Apart from this, there might be some problem in the stereo that there is no other way other than removing and replacing it with a new one. Some instructions have to be followed for removing the stereo and the procedure is generally similar to all brands. This article demonstrates how to remove a Kenwood stereo. Kenwood is one of the leading brands in the field of stereo and many other electronic items.

The removal of the Kenwood stereo can be done using few tools like a wrench that is in crescent shape, a knife small in size and other DIN tools. It is advisable to take primary precautions while handling the wiring of the player. Some basic knowledge about the player and its connection is also essential.

Firstly, the car is switched off. As with all procedures that handle wiring of the car, the next thing to do is to disconnect the battery. For doing this, the wrench can be made use of. With the help of the wrench, the negative end can be removed from the battery. This will cut the power supply to the entire car and hence helps in the prevention of short circuit. There is a chance of short circuiting at the removal of the radio.

Generally a trim ring made of plastic guards the radio. This is present at the face of radio. Therefore, the second step will involve removing this ring. This can be done by sliding the small knife. It can be slid into any corner and pry till there is a pop. This pop shows that the ring is removed.

Next, the DIN tools are taken. They consist of tools that have thin blades and are of small size. They also have hooks at the end. They are slid into the slot which is present on either of the sides of radio. These tools generally come with the radio when it is purchased. But if they are misplaced or lost, they can also be obtained from any auto electronic shop. If there is no time for approaching a shop, knives with thin blades can also be used.

The tools are pushed simultaneously inside till there is a click on both the sides of the radio. After the click, the tools are pulled out carefully. By doing this, the radio would be sliding out along with the tools.

The radio is slid out till the wiring in its rear can be seen. There will be radio plug and a harness for the wiring with colour codes for the wires. There could be additional plugs for CD changer and the satellite radio. These plugs are disconnected from the wires and the radio is pulled out free.

The above article therefore shows how to remove a Kenwood stereo with least assistance.
