How to Wire a Tweeter to a Speaker? A tweeter is a small electronic device used for the reproduction of high frequency sounds waves. Tweeter can be connected to the speaker of any audio system to improve the quality and the other characteristics of the sound waves from the audio system. This tweeter is mainly used in car’s audio system.
Most of the people think that the tweeter can be connected directly to the speaker. But this concept is only partially correct. The tweeter is not supposed to receive the same intensity of power as the woofer or speaker does. The tweeter can receive high frequency sound waves whereas the speaker or woofer can take only low frequency sound waves. If the tweeter is connected directly to the speaker the tweeter may get damaged and so, to prevent this damage you also want a frequency crossover. Only in presence of this frequency crossover you can say that the installation of tweeter – speaker circuit is complete.

This article includes the things that are required to make the installation of this circuit complete and the instructions that will guide you to connect the circuit in the correct order and hence prevent the tweeter getting damaged. The things that you need are tweeter, speaker, crossover cable, screw driver, soldering iron and solder. Make all these things ready before you start the work to save your valuable time.
Initially, the negative terminal from the car’s battery is disconnected so that short circuiting of any electrical equipment is avoided. The metal or plastic grill of the speaker is removed. In some cars there may be panels covering the speakers. In that case remove the panel first to remove the speaker. The screws are then removed using appropriate screw driver. The speaker is removed from its mount and the speaker is also disconnected from its wiring harness carefully.
The input leads of the crossover’s cable are soldered to the output leads or output wires of the stereo’s speaker carefully. Soldering is done using the solder iron and soldering device. This will play the role of the speaker wires that were actually connected to the stock speakers of your car. Care should be taken to note that the negative leads are connected together and the positive leads are connected together.
The crossover’s high frequency leads are connected to the speaker wire terminals of the tweeter found at the back of the tweeter. Care should be taken here also to note that the negative leads are connected together and the positive leads are connected together.
The low frequency leads of the crossover are connected to the terminals of the speaker which can be found at the back side of the speaker. Once again care should be taken here also to note that the negative leads are connected together and the positive leads are connected together.
Thus we have learnt How to Wire a Tweeter to a Speaker with ease from this article.
