Over the past decade, the internet has grown to a massive scale. We rely on the internet to do a multitude of tasks whether it is buying our weekly groceries, booking a holiday, checking the weather; and everything in between. It is due to this huge boom, that many businesses rely heavily on having a live website which allows their current and potential customers to easily view information regarding their services and contact them and for new customers giving them the chance to learn about them and potentially make a sale. In fact, the internet world has grown to such a degree that many are now reaping in the benefits of their own small, home businesses which have gained success from merely being on the internet.

Building your own site is not as difficult as it may seem to be, but although the vast majority of us are somewhat computer and internet literate, many of us would not have the first clue where to start in terms of making a website ourselves. However, creating your own website really couldn’t be simpler, and with these steps, you will soon see yourself launched on to the World Wide Web.

One of the first things you will require for your website is a domain name. This is simply the web address which will direct users to your site. There are a wide range of domain services which you can find on the web to purchase your name from, and many of these offer a reasonable price for a year, or however long you wish to obtain the name for. If you are building your site as a business, think about what you want the address to be. A web address which is random and irrelevant to the field of your business is going to be less memorable, and will appear to be slightly unprofessional. Having a domain name will not instantly provide you with a website, but you cannot have a website without a domain name. Once you have purchased your domain name, you will need a web host to host your website on to the internet. Again, there are many different services which you can find who will provide you with this service, all with varying prices. You will need to sign up for an account with the host you choose to use, but before you sign up with them, have a look at the varying prices from different host services, and also what kind of troubleshoot service they provide both before and after your site has gone live. Once you are all set up with your host, you will need to direct your domain name to the account which is on your web host.

Finally, you will need to design your web pages. Do a prior plan about how you envision the pages to look, taking into consideration any set colors and logos you may have which will coincide with the style and image of your business. You can hire a web designer for this section if you are looking for a specific or professional look, but there are many guides on the internet and software on the market which can help you do this yourself for a much cheaper price. If you are not quite sure what kind of look you are going for, you can go back and tweak different sections of the site once it is live, but the more planning and designing you do initially, the less work you will have to do later on. Ensure that your name is included frequently both on pages and within text on the site. This will help your rankings become higher on search engine results, which in turn will increase your overall traffic.

The internet previously was perceived as a scary field which many were hesitant to jump into. It has now grown into one of our most loved tools, allowing our businesses to grow and for us to be able to reach out to people. By creating your own website, you will not only be able to help your business succeed, but you will also be able to touch more people than ever before.
