When someone’s going through hundreds, sometimes thousands of resumes a day, no one can really blame them for slacking off when evaluating each one. That’s why the burden rests upon you to make sure that your resume is compelling enough to warrant the prospective employer’s attention.

Your resume’s overall appearance is very important. Having a mess and sloppy looking resume will lessen your chance to be qualified for a job interview. Besides, a personnel manager or the employer itself will always look at your every resume’s appearance first before evaluating the applicant.

Nowadays, it is important that you must have the knowledge on how to make your resume more functional. However, you should not focus only to your resume’s appearance but also with your personal information and how it is being formatted. Both the appearance and the content of your resume is what really matters.

Your Resume’s Appearance

Contrary to what some might believe using scented, colored paper won’t get your resume more attention than typical ones will. In fact, that idea is so cheesy, you’d sooner be the laughing stock of the HR department than someone they’re looking to get to know better.

Instead, your resume should look professional, neat and organized. Use an inviting layout, with plenty of whitespace. Make sure all the pertinent information will be easy to spot and locate. Choose a typeface and font size that’s both readable and non distracting.

The paper is where your resume should be print on. The quality of the text must be considered. Also, don’t use a low quality printer for your resume. Focus on writing a good resume with a clean, crisp and sharp looking text.

However, you shouldn’t overcrowd your resume. There should be enough “white space” so that important points can be easily detected. As much as possible, avoid any erasures. Don’t submit any handwritten corrections within your resume. It is best to finalize things up using your computer before submitting your applications.

Your Resume’s Content

A resume is not an account of everything you’ve ever done after college. Get yourself out of that kind of thinking. Instead, it’s a carefully selected presentation of your relevant skills and work experience that coincide with the particular employer’s present requirements.

You don’t have to boast yourself more, just write down what your experiences from the previous work you have. Don’t ever forget to write your personal information and your mobile or phone number so that the company can contact you anytime whenever you are qualified for an interview.

Writing a resume should be simple, direct and factual. Just be honest about all necessary information you’re about to write. Potential employers always note this information base on your resume and with your upcoming interviews. Above all, check your grammars, punctuations and spellings. Organize all essential information well and format your resume properly.

Professional Resumes

Needless to say, your resume needs to be written in a professional manner, regardless of what position you are applying for. If you have doubts about your writing abilities, don’t hesitate to use an English grammar software to ensure that your writing is up to required standards.
