It is funny to think that the first tunics were actually worn by men; soldiers and workmen. Any how, current modes of fashion have made tunics an ideal choice for the stylish woman. The versatility of the tunic is what we all take our hats off for, pair it with denim or leggings, accessorise with the 70s flare or just keep it simple. A tunic dress is just the perfect choice to a wardrobe as it can be worn for parties, casual outings and even work! The thing is most of us just shrug at the thought of trying on dresses that look like nothing special on the hangers. This is the case with most tunic dresses, however it is a known truth that most good dresses do not look as special on the hanger as they do on the body. Therefore, don't hesitate to try on tunic dresses as they may be the type of dresses that flatters your body!

Unforgettably is supermodel Twiggy in a page boy hairstyle and a tunic dress, she paired the dress with leggings and it looked great! Tunic dresses are an ideal choice as they are cool and comfortable for summer. You can always add a belt to clinch in the waist or just wear flats with a tunic dress, this classic dress never goes out of style. Something most people don't know is the fact that tunic dresses can fit any body shape depending on how you style it.

Do you have a shapely body that looks like an hourglass? Then you must have a body alike the gorgeous Scarlett Johansson. This type of body are the envy of many as it has well proportioned shoulders and hips and a slim waist then exudes that hourglass shape. A tunic dress will just flatter a body like this if a belt is worn at the waist to cinch. Remember the best feature of your body is a small waist so get a belted tunic gives the illusion of yet a smaller waist making your body look more shapely than ever!

Well we are all not exactly Hollywood goddesses but we have to work with what we have got and make the best out of it. Some of us have an apple shaped body characterised by a full stomach and lean limbs. Well in your case a tunic dress is an ideal dress as it loose around the stomach area and does not cling. When choosing your tunic dress make sure you try to get something that folds over your stomach so that it conceals it. Go for a sleeveless tunic as it will give the illusion of a slimmer you. If you can not find one then the alternative would be tight long sleeves that will make your arms look nice and lean. Since apple shaped bodies are also characterised by lean legs, flaunt those legs with hosiery or leggings. Just remember accessorise well and avoid belts!

What about those with heavy lower body or those who are heavy at the top. Well there is a solution for every one and it's easy to get it right if you get the whole idea of shifting the focus to create a more balanced proportioned body. Beyonce has a heavy lower body, called a pear shape body and she flaunts it well because she knows how to. In order to create balance with the upper half of a pear shaped body one needs to get tunic dresses with voluminous sleeves and boat neck type necklines. Also wear a belt at the empire line, just below the bust so that the flow of the dress below the belt creates an A line effect. For those who possess a heavier top go for deep necklines such as scoop or V necklines. Bring some volume to your hips by clinching a belt at the lower waist so that the fabric of the tunic dress creates an illusion of bigger hips. Both these body types can benefit from a mini black tunic dress, as black sculpts the body to look slimmer, just avoid shiny types of material and go for matte types of fabrics. Sequins are fine if it embellishes a certain part of a dress.

No matter what body shape you possess, the guideline to style makes it work for everybody. It is all about knowing how to make fashion work for you that is to flatter you not turn you into flamboyant fashion victim. Get yourself a tunic dress and end your woes, just do it right and walk about with pride.
