Technology has developed so much these days that portable GPS systems have made the size of many devices to a smaller level. Tomtom is one such device whose size reduced to a greater extent after the portable GPS s advent. A tomtom system is an intuitive device which is solid and it has a very impressive line of features that make it very user friendly and is easily opted by many people. The most impressive and good feature of this tomtom GPS system is that it can be customized to the user s choice. But the common question that arises in one s mind is that how to customize a tomtom?
There are many options available for customization of a tomtom system. It includes one to allow uploading a new GPS voice, altering the map colors and even can change the display of the icon. There are three major steps in the customization process. The first one is changing the display, next is changing the voice and the last one is connecting it to the computer. An USB cable and a tomtom system will be required for this process.

The very first thing to be done initially is to power on the system. Then the main menu is opened and the preferences option is chosen. The change car symbol is chosen from the options menu and scrolled until a option of our choice appears.
For confirming selection tap the option and then returned to the preferences menu. change color maps option is then chosen. Again scroll through the options until you locate the one of your choice. And then save the option. After this customization is over it is returned to the main menu.
The next step is the voice changing. The tomtom system is powered on and went to the preferences menu. The voice preferences menu is chosen and change voice option is chosen. The available options are scrolled through and this option also allows on to listen to the sample and then makes our choices. The voice which is liked the most is chosen and set as preference.
The final step is connecting the tomtom to your system. From the tomtom website the tomtom home software is chosen and downloaded. From the options available the operating system is chosen. One end of the tomtom USB cable is plugged to it and the other to the portal in the system. Few tomtom systems has dock base instead of USB ports. In this case plug it into the dock given instead of wire.
The tomtom system is then powered on and the software is chosen. And then download it. Open this system in my computer or in the desk top and do your own customization. The corresponding folders will maintain all these directories in it. The tomtom folder is closed and the wires are all unplugged from the system.
