The car stereo that comes as a stock can’t be assured to be fully packed with advanced controls, woofers, amplifiers and also compromises on maximum performance and top sound quality, so its always best to replace them with the latest stereo system with high end sound quality and advanced controls with gives us the feel and push while riding but it doesn’t stop here you need to know how to test a car stereo after its been installed, by testing car stereo we deal with adjusting the equalizers and test the working condition of each parts separately which includes speakers, amplifiers, woofers and etc connected to the stereo system.
Testing a car stereo is not that kind of work which requires a degree, graduation or prior experience, all you have to need for testing a car stereo is 1) Car stereo 2) Bunch of CD’s which are in proper working conditions and 3) multimeter which is required to check the current flow only in case of lose contacts. The first and basic step is to check the connections of each wires this can be done with help of multimeter after checking the connections reconnect the battery and fuse.
Next, turn on the car in ignition mode and let it remain in idle for sometime in the meanwhile adjust the volume to its lowest level and turn on the stereo which can be either done manually or using the remote provided.
If the stereo is provided with radio tuner, tune it to any radio station and increase the volume slowly up to some intermediate level check the working of each speakers especially the front and back one which is important for voice, music playback and adjust the balance control. Check the sound clarity and tune into radio station which plays different genres like hip hop, jazz, rock etc which is done to check the stereo range,same thing can be done using CD’s of different genres if radio tuner is not provided in the stereo
To check the equalizer setting insert a CD with high bass and adjust the equalizer setting so that it is in synchronous with the sound played by adjusting equalizer make sure both the bass and vocal are heard without any distortions this can be done by adjusting treble and mid range sounds. Check the sound clarity with different preset provided with equalizer setting and select the best setting for particular kind of music.
Increase the volume slowly upto maximum level to know the limit of your speaker and stereo, if you happen to hear any distortions reduce the volume slowly until the distortion ceases. Certain speakers can take more than 1000W if your avid listener to loud music its recommended you change the speaker which is rated for more than 1000W.
The instructions on how to test a car stereo are easy to follow and can be done without any supervision. But its recommended that you do not try this while driving and continuous exposure to high decibel sound causes hearing impairment.
