Delivery Procedures: What to Expect

Delivery is basically a procedure that a pregnant woman undertakes in order to dismiss the child on her womb. It could be conducted through a normal delivery procedure or the caesarian method. Both procedures need prior attention and care so as to secure the safety of both the mother and the child. A normal delivery is also known as vaginal birth wherein the child passes through the mother’s vagina; whereas, the caesarian is the method of giving birth that eliminates the pain of labor. This procedure is often associated with the injection of drugs that could cause her to feel no pain during surgeries, such as anesthesia and analgesia.

Types of Delivery Procedures

Delivery or childbirth is never easy. A woman who has delivered a child knows this fact. Pain is basically the biggest deal that covers the whole delivery procedure, in other words, it is the most unwanted deal of all.

Here follows the types of delivery procedures:

Normal Delivery. This type of delivery is attributed with all the natural factors of childbirth. This is in fact very painful. Nothing is injected to prevent women from feeling pain. However, the advancement of technology has improved the delivery procedure in which a woman who is about to go into labor is prescribed with drugs that would calm her or those that would knock her off to sleep for her to feel no pain.
Caesarian Section. This is the mostly undertaken procedure during childbirth particularly in developed countries. This is technically a surgery that removes a child from a woman’s womb. This is often associated with medical guides that help lessen the hustle of delivery. Furthermore, this is a procedure that attributed to the women’s fear of feeling the pain of normal delivery.

The Labor Processes

Among the many processes involved during the labor and delivery phase of pregnancy is inducing labor where the woman is given oxytocin, which is a hormone that is naturally designed to make the uterus of the pregnant woman contract more forcefully and more frequently. This part calls for the regular monitoring of the baby’s fetal heart to detect any fetal distress, which may mean having a caesarian delivery instead.

Augmentation of labor, on the other hand, is the non-natural means of hastening labor that is pushing through too slowly or ineffectively. Again the injection of oxytocin will also be needed in the process.

The Caesarian Delivery

In ten deliveries in the United States, about 2 to 3 are done through a caesarian section. Professional health practitioners do a caesarian section when it is safer than the normal or vaginal delivery procedure such as in the following cases:

When the pregnant woman has a record of having delivered through a caesarian section in here previous pregnancies.
When labor is reported to be proceeding too long and too slow.
When the fetus or the unborn child is observed to be in a breech or any other abnormal position.
When the baby is under unnecessary fetal distress.
