You have a new product you want to sell to the masses. It has mass appeal and you know if you can just get the product on television you will sell thousands of units and make up for all of the time and money you have invested in the product. However, getting the product on television is a huge hurdle in itself. Luckily, there are DRTV infomercials. This simply stands for direct response television and it means that these commercials require direct interaction from their consumers. In other words, these are products that are advertised and that may be purchased while the commercial is airing. Frequently, these commercials are referred to as infomercials.

Economical
In general, DRTV infomercials are economical especially when compared to other types of advertising. If you have not advertised on television before you may not be aware of the cost. However, regular commercial slots are incredibly expensive. Luckily, DRTV infomercial are more affordable and can be as much as half the cost of regular advertising. That's a huge savings, but the cost must be evaluated in terms of market to ensure it truly is an affordable method of advertising a product. For example, if the infomercial could reach 50 million people and your target market is 10 million then this probably won't work out as an economical method.

Good Products
Rarely do poor products make it to DRTV simply because they aren't worth spending the money on. As a result, the majority of products that have a direct response campaign are actually good products. Marketers choose to use this method of advertising so that their products will reach hundreds of thousands of people if not millions while saving money.

DRTV Infomercial Campaign
The DRTV infomercial campaigns that are most successful are the ones that include excellent descriptions of the product, how to use it, benefits, testimonials, as well as a strong call to action. The call to action is incredibly important because it's what makes the consumers want to pick up the phone and purchase the product.

Small businesses and marketers used to be the ones who used DRTV infomercials the most. However, even Fortune 500 companies are finding this to be an effective way to advertise their products and save on marketing at the same time. All that is necessary is to add an 800 number or a website and it's DRTV!
