The city of Kabul is the capital and regarded as the biggest town in
Afghanistan. The city of Kabul is a well-liked name in the travel circuit, not

usually in the positive sense of the word. Stories would
often refer to the city of Kabul as not a safe place to remain. But
for the more bold traveler, the city of Kabul is a frontier that needs
to be checked and visited.
The town of Kabul is an old one and has many stories to inform as well. The history of Kabul goes
back to above 3000 years. And through that time span, the town has been destroyed and reconstructed once more on many sites. Kabul was conquered by the Arabs in
the 7th century and this was then surpassed by the Ghazni and the Herat till the town
of Kabul was made as the capital by the Babur. The city remained under the reins of the Mughal rule
till the capture by Nadir Shah.
Before this time, the city of Kandahar was the center and the capital of Afghanistan. But by the year 1773, the
city of Kabul replaced Kandahar as the center and the capital of the country. The town of Kabul has many
historic buildings and institutions built thru the years. As an example the educational center of Kabul was the university, and there are a
number of universities and fine museums in the town as well . The
varsity in Kabul was established in 1931. Kabul is also famous for its Babur's
crypt and gardens, and also the mausoleum of Nadir Shah. The column of
independence that was built in 1919 can be found in Kabul also. The tomb of
Timur Shah is in the area as well and this ruler ruled from 1771 till 1793. The Afghan wars were also a well-liked event in the history of the town.
During these wars, British armed forces took Kabul in 1839. The year 1842 was
imperative as well in the history of the town as the withdrawing British troops were
ambushed after the Afghans have guaranteed safe passage for them. Due to this event, the
English force partially burned Kabul. The year 1979 saw the entry of Soviet forces to help
brace communist state by Kabul and withdrew in 1989. Much of
Kabul was wrecked and the town has undergone a number of
reconstructions since 2002 but still lots of its buildings are still in ruins.
