Farouk Shami Files to Run for Texas Governor as a Democrat

Ending debate over whether he might file for another office on the Texas ballot, Houston hair magnate Farouk Shami filed to run as a Democrat for Texas Governor today. After a misfired statement that he was filing for office yesterday, Shami entered the race today with the following release, printed in full.
"I am here today because Texas needs new leadership and a break with the failures of the past. Throughout the years, I have watched career politicians making hopeless promises to the people of this state. My track record of consistent accomplishments and action speaks for itself. Through education and hard work, I built an enterprise that is a debt free billion dollar company and exports to 114 countries. In Texas, we have in abundance the tools and skills necessary to be a global economic force. What we have lacked is the necessary leadership in Austin, where special interests and a 'business as usual' attitude dominates the agenda. That's a problem that effects all Texans and something I will fight to fix. Today I offer my knowledge and experience to the people of Texas and promise I will accept no money from special interests and will accept only $1 in salary per year as their Governor."

Creating Jobs
Farouk Shami believes that "Made in USA" is the strongest brand in the world. As inventor of the CHI and other consumer products, he has created thousands of jobs in Texas. As Governor, he will encourage business owners to stop sending jobs overseas and start creating jobs here in Texas through the use of innovative tools. Since founding Farouk Systems, he's brought back more than a thousand jobs to Texas from China. He knows how to compete with Chinese manufacturing and will work hard to make sure others know how as well.
Reforming Health Care
Farouk Shami wants Texans to have the same opportunity he gives to his employees. As a responsible business owner who provides health insurance, he understands how rising health care costs hurt families, small businesses, and the economy. As governor, he will ensure that children have affordable health insurance and preventative care. He will work with the drug and insurance companies to build a partnership with Texas, rather than look at the citizens of this state as a profit center.
Providing Quality Education
Farouk Shami believes that every child in Texas, including his nine grandchildren, deserves a first class education. He believes a strong public school system is the key to opportunity and economic progress. As Governor, Farouk will place a priority on giving students the skills needed to compete in a global economy by emphasizing reading, writing, math and science. He will fight hard to make sure that public schools have the tools and resources to meet the challenge of educating a our children.

Farouk Shami built his business developing environmentally friendly and high quality products that utilize advanced American technology. As Governor, Farouk will encourage organic and sustainable farming and ranching. His focus will be to increase renewable energy that will reduce pollution and create jobs.
