H1N1 vaccine available at two Walgreens stores

Injectable and nasal H1N1 vaccine is available at Walgreens stores at 9209 Mansfield Road in Shreveport and 2107 Airline Drive in Bossier City Vaccine also remains available at Christus Schumpert's First Care and Bossier Family Medicine, 2539 Viking Drive in Bossier City.

The vaccine is available to pregnant women, people who live with or care for children younger than 6 months old, health care and emergency services workers, people 6 months to 24 years old and anyone ages 25 to 64 who has chronic health problems that put them at greater risk of flu complications.

The cost is $18 per vaccination at Walgreens and $19.12 at First Care. Check with each provider for specific requirements, such as a doctor's note. And check with your insurance carrier about whether the vaccine is covered.

Rescue Mission to help fix up Allendale area

Shreveport-Bossier Rescue Mission staffers and residents today will lead teams of volunteers in cleaning yards, trimming trees and helping residents of Shreveport's Allendale neighborhood with other improvement projects.

It's a follow-up to the agency's Takin' It to the Streets event Oct. 31, when about 700 people helped distribute food and clothing provided by about 20 churches and nonprofits.

Volunteers from Dallas and Louisiana Tech University in Ruston also will participate today. Call Anna Adams at the Rescue Mission at (318) 227-2868, ext. 104, to help.
Dinner reservations due Sunday for GOP session

Mike Johnson, senior legal counsel for Alliance Defense Fund, will be the guest speaker when Professional Republican Women of Caddo meets at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Savoie's Catering Place, 2411 E. 70th St. in Shreveport.

The group's officers for 2010 will be installed by Gena Gore, vice president of the Louisiana Federation of Republican Women's northwest region. There also will be a white elephant sale at 5:30 p.m.
