Humana was started in 1961 by two lawyers who started a business building nursing homes. Four of their friends invested $1,000 each. They created a Heritage home and eventually owned 6 more nursing homes in 1968. They were able to expand when they acquire a hospital in Alabama. Finally in 1974, this nursing business was named Humana which now focuses on hospital business. During the 80’s it has become the world’s largest hospital company.
