Parts of a Hat
A hat consists of four basic parts: the brim, crown, bill, and hatband. The brim is the outer portion of the hat. The brim can be sturdy, stiff, loose, bent, or curled. The crown is featured at the top portion of the hat and covers the head. Like the brim, the crown can differ depending on the hat. A baseball cap has a round crown, a fedora can have a pointed crown, and a boat hat can have a flat crown. The bill is featured directly in the front of the cap, and is generally what shields the face from the elements. Lastly, the hatband is located around the circumference of the hat. Visors and baseball caps have sweatbands laced inside the hat. Fedoras can have material and other embellishments encircling the hatband.

Fedora: The fedora hat is one of the most popular hats today. Younger and older men can wear fedoras with business and casual attire. If you can't quite picture a fedora hat without looking at one think of fictional character Indiana Jones. Occasion: Business and casual
Newsboy: Newsboy hats were worn by newspaper delivery boys at the turn of the 20th century. Newsboy hats feature rounded or oval shaped bills. One signature feature of the newsboy hat is a button that is placed in the dead center of the top portion of the hat. Bill Cosby's fictional characters in Fat Albert often wore newsboy caps. Bucket: Bucket hats aren't just for fishing days. Even the members of the rap group Run-DMC sported Kangol bucket hats during their heyday. Bucket hats are worn to shield the face from the sun, and are not particularly worn for dressy occasions. Gilligan from Gilligan's Island wore a bucket hat. Occasion: Very Casual
Trilby: Actors Hugh Jackman, Orlando Bloom, Johnny Depp, and Brad Pitt are often seen sporting super cool hats that look like fedoras while they run errands. However, these are actually trilby hats. Trilby hats are very similar to fedoras, but have much shorter brims. Occasion: Casual

Remember to remove your hat when indoors. Hats are acceptable, however, at indoor sporting events.
