Breast surgery is always a hot topic. There always seems to be a group of women around that want to have it or that argue the opposite side that it is ridiculous and they should be loved for who they are. Low self esteem is often used as a reason for someone to get breast surgery and this is very tricky ground. Many women who have suffered through breast cancer will go through a bout with low self esteem. This is perfectly understandable and breast surgery is a very viable option for them. On the other side of the argument is a woman who has low self esteem because of psychological reasons. To think that breast surgery is going to make those issues go away is foolish. Counseling is needed, not surgery. Breast surgery can often just make matters worse for them when they realize that not very much has changed.
Everyone struggles through life at times, but making a drastic change like breast surgery is not something that should be done at this point in their life. If they do not get the desired results in public opinion that they were expecting, they can often be damaged further. This will lead to a downward spiral that they may never recover from.
It is common practice for a surgeon to require patients to go through a quick psychiatric questionnaire. This is to make sure that the patient is doing the surgery for the right reasons and not something that could lead to mental issues down the road. Once they are satisfied that the breast surgery impact on the psyche will not be negative, they will move forward and the patient will hopefully see the breasts that they have always dreamed of.
