Hosting a wedding shower is normally the domain of the chief bridesmaid, but these days the bride is often heavily involved in the preparations. Wedding shower favors are a relatively new idea and have been derived from the tradition of giving wedding favors to the wedding guests.
Just as with wedding favors, choosing shower favors can be just as difficult. If you are planning a themed shower then your task may be made easier by choosing favors which coordinate with your theme. But for those of you who are organizing something less complicated choosing appropriate shower favors can be tricky.

Many of the wedding favor stores will stock a range of wedding shower favors as well. These usually have a very feminine feel and often mimic the types of favor available for weddings. Items such as candles, chocolates, candies and photograph frames are all available with a wedding shower theme.
There is also the question of budget. The amount you spend on your shower favors really depends on how much you are prepared to spend on the whole shower. Remember you will need to budget for food, drink and some form of entertainment. Chocolates and candies will represent the cheapest form of favor, whilst items such as photograph frames and compacts will be more expensive.
Keeping perspective is also important. Remember a shower is just an informal gathering of friends and family to give the bride gifts before her wedding. Simple favors consisting of chocolates or candies will usually be more than sufficient in much the same way that parents give out treat bags at their children’s parties. A shower favor only needs to be a little token gift to say ‘thanks for coming’.
For something a little different for your favors, cookies make a great choice. Whether you make them yourself or buy custom made versions, they make great favors for any type of party.
Shower favors are not a substitute for giving out thank you notes after the shower. You will still need to send out thank you cards to thank all those who gave you a gift. This is the same as for wedding favors which are not a replacement for thank you cards.
As with wedding favors you may want to coordinate your shower favors with the style of your shower and in a choice of colors. You should also consider giving the favors a touch of the bride’s personality and style. If she loves to be loud and bold then make the favors loud and bold, if she is more the quiet type then choose something equally subdued.
