The two key ingredients of a successful relationship are trust and love. If one is lost, it is bound to affect the relationship. Now, as the saying goes 'To err is human' mistakes sometimes do happen either intentionally or unknowingly. If done unintentionally can be forgotten with time but a mistake done by any one of the partners intentionally mars the relationship forever. The person guilty of the offence might realize his/her mistake and resort to lies to save it. In case he/she doesn't, the lies spoken thereof is meant to end the relationship. Whatever the outcome might be, it is important that you first know why and whether your partner is lying or not.
Circumstances in which your partner might lie to you

1. When he/she is cheating on you,
2. He/she has lost interest in the relationship and wants to move on,
3. He/she is avoiding you,
4. He/she has to split up under family pressure or for some other personal reasons but does not want to reveal the real reason,
5. He/she does not want to hurt you any unpleasant truth,
6. He/she is guilty of doing something wrong which he/she does not want to reveal to you,
7. Out of fear of losing his/her partner, and
8. To avoid facing an embarrassing situation.
When you are in a relationship and have known the person for a long time, it is quite obvious that you are totally aware of his/her behavior, gestures, and mannerisms. A person whom you have known suddenly appears different to you and this change very easily attracts attention. Especially, if he/she hesitates to convey a fact it shows signs of pretence or lying. However, such a thought is indeed very disappointing thus you can try and cross check the details that your partner has stated. Make sure that your partner gets no wind of the affair, and then you might end up being tagged as suspicious. Another way is to directly confront your partner. In any case if you are not willing to abide by any of them, it is better to first notice closely, be sure that your partner is lying to you and then question him/her.
Some of the ways which can guide you to know whether your partner is lying to you or not are as follows:
· Notice the body language. Gestures often reveal the inner turmoil going within a person. Certain behavioral changes often suggest that your partner is feeling nervous in confronting you like not looking towards you, appearing to be unmindful, biting nails, smoking too much etc.
· Look to it whether he has developed habits which he did not have before.
· While talking, notice whether he gets irritated easily or not, whether he shouts at you or not, scolds you for things which are not your fault.
· Makes excuses for not being able to meet you or cancels pre arranged meetings.
· Does not reply to your messages or takes up your calls.
· See whether he/she is restless and always in a hurry to leave.
· On asking questions, whether he/she perspires even if the day is just fine.
· Tries to defend himself/herself always
· Reacts rudely or violently to allegations
· Justifying his/her behavior more than required
· Mismatch in body language and facial expressions
· Hesitant or rigid while behaving with partner, not free enough
· Not able to justify his/her rude behavior, citing improper reasons.
