Beach Wedding Attire Choosing the Right Attire for a Beach Wedding

Beach weddings are a wonderful choice for those who are looking for a more relaxed style for their wedding. But unlike a usual wedding, beach wedding attire needs to be chosen with care and consideration of several factors.

Typically a beach wedding will be held somewhere where the climate is hot, this doesn’t have to be on foreign shores, and a summer beach wedding at home is equally as popular as their destination counterparts. However, climate does need careful consideration when it comes to your attire.

Avoid heavy fabrics and instead opt for lightweight choices such as chiffon, organza, lightweight silks and organdy. For men you can choose cool cotton or linen suits. Keeping to attire made from lighter fabrics will help you to stay cool on the day therefore making your wedding a more comfortable event

You should also give consideration to the size of your outfit or the number of pieces it consists of. For men a simple shirt and pants combination is usually the best choice, whilst your bridesmaids would appreciate short length dresses and even cotton sundresses in a particularly hot climate.

As the bride you should look at simple dresses without very full skirts which can be heavy to wear at the best of times. Avoid long trains as these will definitely drag on a sandy beach and make your walk down the aisle look a little awkward Puddle trains are fine though as these are quite short and you are unlikely to feel them dragging on the ground. Most beach style wedding dresses will have simple a line skirts or be in a sheath style which is straight throughout. If you wanted the fairytale look with a big skirt, then opt for one made from tulle which is not too heavy and which has a wired petticoat underneath making it easier to walk in and stopping it clinging to your legs.

The bodice of your dress is also an important consideration. Avoid very rigid, boned corset style dresses which can restrict your breathing and with their tight fitting nature can become very uncomfortable in hot weather. Strapless is a good choice, although any style which doesn’t have long sleeves is a good choice. Small cap or puff sleeves which cover the shoulders are a good choice for those brides who don’t like the tops of their arms or whom want to cover their shoulders.

Think carefully about your accessories as well. A shrug or cover up made from fabric such as chiffon can be a good addition especially if you are concerned about catching the sun. Choose your shoes wisely 4″ heels on a sandy beach will be impossible to wear, so it will come as no surprise to learn that most beach brides opt for flipflops or low sandals. Some even go barefoot

A veil could become something of a hindrance on a beach with stiff sea breeze you don’t want to be constantly pulling it from your face so they are probably best avoided unless your choice of wedding dress coordinates with a very short veil.

Beach weddings are a wonderful time to think about choosing attire not normally associated with formal weddings. Consider short dresses or tea length designs, sun dresses or even formal occasion wear. A large brimmed hat can be an accessory made in heaven on a hot sunny day, whilst simple open toed sandals will let your feet breath and keep you comfortable all day long.
