You can learn how to paint even without enrolling in an art school. In fact, you can learn how to paint like a professional by yourself, with the help of books about painting.

Anyone can paint. Although there are some people who are better painters than the others, art can be learned through experience. With practice, you can learn the right blend of colors and other important methods.

If you want to be a successful painter someday or if you simply want painting for a hobby and don’t know how to pursue your artistic dreams, you can start developing your drawings by yourself. You can draw a simple object first, without any details.

Then, you can add the details as you remember it. The key factor in drawing or painting is imagination. Let your imagination run wild to make eerie, realistic, abstract or simply amazing paintings. You can also search the internet or go to local bookstore and find quality books that will teach you the basics.

From there, you can put in some of your ideas for a distinct and personal touch. Some books can teach you how to paint or draw like a professional. Of course to be able to practice thoroughly, you need to invest on materials like books, pencils of different shades and textures, brushes, and other art materials. Experiment on the different shading, angles, perspective, vanishing points and a whole lot more.

After you’ve mastered drawing techniques, you can now learn how to be a painter. The main reason why you have to be good in drawing before you learn how to paint is the fact that it makes the actual painting or coloring easy enough. It is like putting on colors in your coloring books with the use of crayons when you were still young.

Similar to drawing where you have to purchase various pencil types, you also need to buy various types of brushes, especially if you want to consider painting. The thickness, size and texture of paint brushes can determine the outcome of your painting.

In terms of paint, choose acrylic paints because it is the easiest painting medium for starters. Master acrylic painting before shifting on to another painting medium. You can first buy the primary colors and mix them to create other colors. For instance, mix the primary colors red and white to produce the color pink.

You can also mix red, blue and green altogether in order to achieve the color black. Buy a large tube of white and black. Buy a palette where you can put your paint on. You can also substitute a paper plate with an aluminum foil on top of it and it can work wonders.

If you’re all set to begin painting, draw in the canvas by initially using your pencils. After that, you can now color the sketch with paint. You can also mix your acrylic paint with water to achieve the desired thickness on the canvas.

Under painting is one technique that gives a professional look. It involves painting below the outer layer of paint. You can apply a lighter shade or a glaze above the under paint.
