Silver Screen Wedding Themes

If you are having a wedding theme then you should be looking to choose something that represents the style & personalities of you both. Many couples will choose a theme along the lines of something that interests them, whilst others will choose a romantic theme such as fairy tales or butterflies.

But have you considered using a favorite movie as your wedding theme? Taking your inspiration from the silver screen could provide you with all the elements you need to pull off a fabulous wedding & one that everyone will remember.

I am not going to suggest movie titles here, as there are just too many to choose from. But I will give you a few pointers on what to look for when it comes to recreating your favorite movie for your wedding.

Venue: Location is key, whilst many settings can be transformed to recreate the look you want, there are some instances where you may need to research further for the perfect venue. A lot will depend on the style of your chosen film, a period costume drama for instance could call for a stately home or ballroom, whilst an adventure movie could call for something very different.

If venue becomes an issue, then delve deeper into the film & try to find a scene where the setting is much easier to create.

Attire: Now this is were your wedding can become truly unique. For most it will mean a trip to a dressmaker for a custom made dress & perhaps grooms attire too. You will find many theatrical style gowns from wedding dress designers which may fit the bill or you may choose to adopt a little artistic license of your own & design your own dress to coordinate with the theme. Fancy dress shops are always another option, although I would be careful to hire good quality costumes rather than budget price ones as these may be ill fitting & look cheap.

The internet can be a great resource for finding out about costumes from films. I have come across many sites that go into great detail about costumes, include original drawings & pictures & can point in the direction of similar dress patterns or designers. Another tip is to look out for exhibitions where film costumes are being showcased.

Reception Decorations: How will you manage the decorations for your reception? Does your chosen film offer plenty of inspiration or is it really an open book & you can choose whatever you want. Try at the very least to include decorations that add an air of authenticity to your theme, they are an integral part & skimping on this area will likely make the whole thing fall flat. Sometimes it can be the tiniest detail that will unlock the whole thing for you, so scrutinize your film from start to finish.

Food & Drink: For a period drama try to recreate dishes from that period to keep it authentic. You may be able to recreate food & drink from the film otherwise what you choose will be up to you. If the film is set in a certain country or region then look for dishes & drink that are local to that area.

Wedding Favors: Look for something in the film that would perhaps translate into a great wedding favor. It could be something simple like a symbol from the film or some little trinket which you could recreate for your favors. If you have chosen an old, vintage film, making a copy of it on DVD would be a great idea. Just be wary of copyright issues when burning DVD’s & CD’s to give to other people.

Wedding themes are intended to add an element of fun & uniqueness to your day. By choosing a film as your guide you are guaranteed to create a beautiful wedding that is full of your own personality & unique touches.
