Black diamonds are called hematite, as anyone worth their salt in the jewelry industry could tell you, and if you look it up, it has a metallic silver/gray look and is not faceted like a regular gemstone because it is opaque, which defeats the purpose. Just a few years ago, if you tried to buy something like that, it wouldn’t be worth anything. Really, because a dark faceted stone like that, there’s no point in faceting it for there’s no way for light to shine through it, so most people don’t go for those, thus the low value.

Unlike the traditional colors of diamond engagement rings we know, a black diamond engagement ring is not the preference of many women. It would be surprising if not scary to be given a ring especially a black diamond engagement ring. As what many of us believes that it is poor etiquette to wear black to a wedding or other romantic event for it badluck, undesirable forebodings and even death. However, beyond those superstitions, black diamond engagement ring will always be stunning and unique, if not an eccentric kind of ring to choose for a loved one.

These kind of engagement rings have grown its popularity after Rob Patterson gave black diamond solitaire engagement ring to Carmen Electra. Compared to other rings, one reason why other people are attracted to it because it is much edgier and unique. For others, it is a reflection of their own personality that is not particularly traditional.

For couples who are seeking for unique stones may consider the black diamond for an engagement ring, but they should go to an accredited jeweler for some people trick sellers by adding color to fancy stones and make it appear a true black diamond. If the jewelers proven that you are getting the real deal, these rare and luxurious diamond will make a dramatic and powerful impression for a truly one of a kind engagement ring.
