What HP says:-

‘The D5460 is one of HP’s newest Photosmart printers. It is a compact printer designed for everyday printing jobs and for high quality photos. With its speedy 33 pages per minute for a black and white document and 31 pages per minute for a colour print and its Vivera ink system you get instantly dry, smudge resistant prints. HP recommends using HP Advanced Photo Paper for best results. You can also print directly onto CD’s and DVD’s adding your own photos and text! Print 4”x6” snapshots in just 17 seconds. Select material from multiple web pages and print what you see with HP’s Smart Web Printing. Skip the PC, view, edit and print direct from a memory card using the 1.5” colour display. Edit, organize, share and print from your PC with the HP Photosmart Essential software. Save money by only replacing the individual cartridges that run out of ink. Get three times more black pages and double the colour pages when using high capacity cartridges.’

HP conducted worldwide research on Photosmart printers in Sept/Oct 2006 asking adults who either bought or were thinking of buying a printer how they rated printers for ease of use and reliability. HP was compared with Canon, Dell, Epson, Kodak, Lexmark and Samsung.
The results were:-

Easy to Use: HP 46% Competitors 22%

Reliability: HP 43% Competitors 16%

What the consumers say:-

The Good –

‘Impressively speedy – spitting out a two page full colour PDF in 38 seconds’
‘The photos look great with true to life skin tones, bright reds, blues and greens and deep blacks and instantly dry!’

‘Printing from your cameras memory card is a cinch’

‘Crisp photos and great colour’

‘Great value, The D5460 turns out gorgeous photos and doesn’t consume ink like other printers’

‘It is a beautifully designed, reliable, affordable, easy to use, everyday printer’

‘I will definitely recommend it for general purpose & photo printing usage’

‘Best of all that I like is to be able to print CD and DVD’

The Bad-

‘Software makes it more difficult than necessary to print photos from within an image editor’

‘Only gripe is the software – the more than necessary process involved way more clicks and selections than we’d like just to print a pic to send to Grandma’

‘It was difficult to get it to use custom size paper’

The Ugly:

‘It was so noisy ‘

‘Uses ink like a hog’

‘A rather rudimentary direct to CD/DVD driver’
