Driving instructors are professionals. They are qualified in order to teach other students. There are qualifications when it comes to driving instructors and must pass certain examinations.

A driving instructor is a car driving trainer licensed and tested by the Driving Standards Agency. In order for driving instructors to charge their services, they must be qualified and must follow the legal requirements set by the United States. This makes sure that students will only be trained in capable hands always to prevent accidents.

In some parts of the globe, there may be a free supervision or tuition program that maybe given to individuals that are over 21 years old. The said individuals must have to present a full license within the same vehicle class as to that of the one being used for approximately 3 years.

There is also no specific rule of law that having a professional driving instructor is compulsory but studies show that nine out of the ten students who passed both the practical and theory driving tests were taught by a driving instructor.

Qualifications on Being a Driving Instructor

In order to qualify and to become a licensed instructor, one must be at least 21 years old. In the United Kingdom and European Union states, the driving license of the applicant must be about four out of the previous six years before allowing the name to be entered onto the list of driving instructors. The person must also be of good moral character.

Any unspent criminal charges and convictions are considered and deliberated. A person that excludes the maximum amount of five penalty points on their driver’s license will prohibit entry his or her entry from the list. Lastly, the person or applicant must pass its three mandatory search examinations.

Three part Search Examinations for Driving Instructors

The first part of the examination is a theory test consisting of 100 questions of multiple choices. The questions are divided into four portions as well as a Hazard Perception Test. The applicant or candidate must get the required passing mark in the multiple choice questions, which is 85 percent most of the time.

The candidate is also required to answer not lesser than 80 percent of the questions on each of the four bands. On the other hand, the passing mark for the so called Hazard Perception Test is 57 out of the 75 questions. The passing rate of this field of examination is only 49 percent.

The second part of the test is intended to check the actual driving ability. This particular exam will last for over an hour. It covers various road types and conditions. All kinds of maneuvers are analyzed and tested. There must be a top level of competence in order to pass on this examination. The passing rate for this exam is about 45 percent.

The last part of the driving instructor exam is to test for the instructional ability. This exam usually lasts for over an hour. The time limit is broken into 2 phases. During the first phase, the examiner will pretend to be a student or a beginner and the candidate must teach properly. The second phase is probably the same as the first phase. Again, the examiner will pretend to be a student of a test standard or a student who is not lucky enough to pass the license exam. The candidates must get a grade of four on each phase in order for them to pass. The passing rate for this part of the exam is 28 percent.
