The style of your hair on your wedding day will be the crowning glory of your whole outfit. In fact it can make or break your entire look. But many brides may be nervous about how to approach the subject of their hairstyle for their wedding.

When you visit the salon to discuss and trail your wedding hair here 10 top tips to help you make the most of your visit.

.Bring a Picture: It isn’t asking for trouble to take a picture or pictures along of the styles you like. However, you should be prepared for some realistic advice should your pictures be a million miles away from the style you presently have. A good stylist will be able to come up with something that will suit you and will be practical given your current hair style. Remember stylists will always want you to leave the salon looking and feeling wonderful and your wedding will be a perfect advertisement for their skills.

.Hating Your Reflection: If you are having your trial run done at the salon the bright neon lights and large mirrors are often quite unflattering and rarely does anyone look their best! You should keep in mind that the salon is set up for practicality rather than beautifying. Remember once you step out of the salon your skin tone and hair color will look more normal under natural light.

.Doing the Holiday Chat: For some a trip to the salon is a chance for a gossip. You may know the stylist very well so the chance for a catch over the bridal mags is no problem. Others though would prefer to spend the time just relaxing and being pampered. However, as we are talking about your wedding hairstyle you should make a point of asking the stylist as much as possible about various hairstyles, how long they will stay in, if you will need to do any ‘touching up’ during the day etc.

.Getting What you Asked For: If you feel that the stylist is about to use a technique which you know personally doesn’t work with your hair or which you distinctly asked them not to use, you should say so. Calmly ask them what they are doing and then say that you prefer not to have it done that way. The first few appointments you have with your stylist are the important ones and are all about building a relationship with the stylist.

.Leaving Halfway Through: You should only ever do this if you are seriously unhappy with the way things are going and only after you have tried and failed to rectify the situation first. But before you make for the door, make sure your hair is in a state in which you are happy to leave it.

.Paying for Treatments: Many stylists will try to sell you additional treatments. You may or not need these, but if you feel you do or you would like the treat and don’t mind the extra cost then say yes and enjoy. If money is an issue then ask them first about the cost and if the treatment is essential. Don’t be embarrassed to day no.

.Having to Complain: Should the worst happen and you are not happy with the stylist work then you must say so there and then so they can rectify it. If they cannot do it then, book another appointment and make sure you know how much you will be paying, if anything!
.Leaving a Tip: When you visit a salon your hair could be treated by a number of people throughout your appointment. If you want to tip you should think about who you are tipping and how much. If you haven’t had good service don’t tip, there is no cause to reward bad practice. However, if you are pleased then you should tip about 15% of the total cost.

.Blow drying Your Own Hair: You can ask to blow dry your own hair in a salon and many will be pleased to oblige as they will no doubt welcome the break! If you do blow dry your own hair though I wouldn’t expect to get a reduction on the bill!

.Changing Stylists: When it comes to your wedding hairstyle it is all about getting what you want and if the person doing your hair is not achieving that then you are within your rights to ask for a different stylist. You are a paying customer and it is your prerogative to change stylist if you want to.
